Shortly after the start of the Pokémon GO Pikachu Outbreak event in Yokohama, Japan, reports of shiny Pikachu sighting started pouring in.

As confirmed by The Silph Road and PokeHuntr Twitter accounts, the shiny versions of Pichu, Pikachu, and Raichu are available for trainers to catch. A Japanese website dedicated to the game has also confirmed the occurrence. This comes as a surprise for attendees who were originally promised spawns of Europe-exclusive Mr. Mime and other rare creatures. It is currently unknown whether these shiny Pokémon will get a worldwide release.

These shiny spottings in the event corroborate with redditor /u/Chrales’ analysis. While digging into the game’s files, Chrales found the shiny sprites of the Pikachu family, along with previous event-only versions of the Pokémon. It seems that these sprites were added in the game’s latest update in preparation for the event.

Pikachu Outbreak takes place from August 9 to August 15 in Minato Mirai, Yokohama, Japan. Cup Noodle Museum and Aka-renga Park (Red Brick Warehouse) serve as main sites for the event. The park will spawn more Kanto Pokémon while the museum will see more Johto Pokémon. Additionally, Pokestops around the area will also give trainers special 2 km eggs.
