Performance Designed Products (PDP) is known for their iconic accessories including for the Nintendo Switch. Each product they release is a true piece of artwork and is uniquely designed to accommodate the needs of the system and those who use it.

Their most popular collectible line, Pixel Pals has branched out to numerous franchises including The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Super Mario Bros., among others. This phenomenon had us wondering why it was so loved in the Nintendo community and we had to see it for ourselves.

The folks at PDP sent us an early sneak peek at their upcoming Super Mario World – Mario Pixel Pals collectible figure.

Design

The Pixel Pals are known for their mosaic-esque 8-bit design, appealing to fans who enjoyed retro games in the past. Each Pixel Pals is crafted to reflect a character from a popular franchise including the Super Mario series. Nintendo’s Super Mario World, Mario Pixel Pals is the 20th collectible figure in the Pixel Pals line-up, perfectly resembling his appearance in the game with his bright blue overhauls, red hat, and shirt including his polished brown shoes.

What makes Pixel Pals so appealing, is the attention to detail in a small 8-bit form factor, perfect for anyone who wants to collect and display their favorite characters from early childhood games. In addition to collecting, all Pixel Pals can also light up and be used as a lamp and are relatively small and convenient for those who want to store them on a bookshelf or even a desk. All Pixel Pals operate with 2 AAA batteries and will soon be usable with a USB power source with their upcoming Pixel Pals USB Adapter. The Pixel Pals USB Adapter will allow collectors to plug into a USB power source for a battery-free solution for new and previously released Pixel Pals figures with an included battery door and a 6 ft USB cable.

Concerns

Even though Pixel Pals are great collectible figures and operate with AAA batteries, it definitely would’ve been great to have the USB Adapter included. The figures are very easy to setup and require little to no effort, however, it would’ve been convenient for those who just prefer to keep their Pixel Pals near a desk or even for those who’d rather have them plugged into a USB power source without worrying about purchasing additional batteries.

Final Thoughts

Pixel Pals are truly unique and amazing to collect and will definitely rekindle old childhood memories with each figurine. Even without having any included USB power-source capabilities, it has become one of our favorite products to collect and feature so far, especially at its price point. The Super Mario World, Mario Pixel Pals will be available on September 19 at participating retailers and is available for pre-order now for $14.99.
