With the imminent launch of Super Mario Odyssey, fans around the world are thrilled to finally get their hands on the game including Nintendo of America’s President, Reggie Fils-Aime. In a recent interview at Nintendo NY, Fils-Aime addressed a few topics as to what to expect in the near future:

Champions Ballad DLC –

When asked about the upcoming Breath of the Wild – Champions Ballad DLC and its tentative release window, Fils-Aime confirmed that it’s still on track to release later this year and a release date will be announced soon.

Gamecube Adapter Support for Switch –

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Switch now supports the Wii U Gamecube adapter with the newest update.

When asked about it being an indication of a possible Smash Bros release, Fils-Aime responded, “Of course, there’s nothing to announce on this,” he said. “I think it’s fair to say, that peripheral working was as much a surprise to us as it was to consumers.” “In our latest system software update, it enables third-party peripherals to work on Nintendo Switch,” Fils-Aime explained. “As a result, the peripheral for Wii U that allows it to attach GameCube controllers also works.”

Miiverse –

When Nintendo announced the ending of Miiverse, it was quite sad for many including for folks who used the service in games such as Splatoon and Super Smash Bros.

When asked as to why Miiverse is ending on 2DS/3DS and Wii U, “Miiverse was a great community,” Fils-Aime said. “It was something we thought would be integral to the Wii U proposition along with Nintendo TVii. Unfortunately the Wii U didn’t scale the way we hoped it would, which makes continuing those services financially challenging.”

Regarding Miiverse on 3DS and 2DS, “They’re all linked,” he said. “From a service, architecture, and delivery [standpoint], it’s linked. Once we made the decision for it to be concluded on Wii U, it meant it would be concluded for 3DS as well as the viewing service on your PC.”

Video-on-Demand Services & Classic Games for Switch –

Streaming services such as Hulu, YouTube and others will be available on Switch when they’re ready to go by their respective companies in due time.

Regarding classic games for Switch, “We’re gratified to have some of the best content ever created be unique to Nintendo platforms. We’re also gratified by our community that they want to play this content. What we’ve said is that there’s going to be some classic content that’s part of the Nintendo Online proposition. We’ve said we will unveil more about that proposition next year before it launches.” The release of the NES and SNES Classic does not preclude classic games from coming to Switch he added.

Switch Specific Rewards for Switch –

“There are unique elements coming for Nintendo Switch. We’ll be announcing those in due time. We do believe having a strong loyalty program for all of our products is important and certainly our fans appreciate it.”

With these additions coming to Switch, we’re thrilled for what the future holds for the company. Check out the full interview at Kotaku by clicking here.
