In a recent interview with Famitsu, Capcom talked about the release of Resident Evil for Switch and revealed that Capcom at one point considered making Resident Evil franchise amiibo. The concept apparently got far enough that the developers actually had 3D models with which to test out poses.

Of the classic roster of beloved Resident Evil characters, who was Capcom planning on giving the amiibo treatment? As it turns out, it wasn’t the main protagonists like Jill Valentine or Leon Kennedy that got furthest along in development. It was actually HUNK and Lady HUNK that were the furthest along before being canned. There was no mention of what these hunky amiibo would have done when scanned in-game, although Revelations does have amiibo support. In fact, a little tip mentioned in the interview was that Capcom amiibo, like the Megaman or the Monster Hunter series, give better rewards in-game. Capcom did mention, however, that the idea wasn’t completely off the table for the future, so we may yet see Resident Evil amiibo join the collection in the future.
