According to the latest Nintendo 3rd quarter conference call, Nintendo Switch has now officially outsold the Wii U! The Switch has hit 14.86 million units sold worldwide, surpassing the Wii U’s total lifetime sales, 13.56 million. However, the software sales of Switch have hit 52.56 million, while the Wii U’s numbers are currently at 101.65 million total.

The Switch’s success ties back to its major software releases of the year, with games like Super Mario Odyssey having sold over 9 million units worldwide. Breath Of The Wild has also surpassed most of its previous installments and is now the second best selling Zelda of all time, currently at 6.70 million units sold worldwide. Also with LABO releasing in a few months from now including major releases like Bayonetta and Kirby on the way, the Switch will undoubtedly continue to sell in such high amounts.

The Switch sales have done extremely well for the console being out for only 9 months, and we only expect them to increase over the next few years. With this being said, Nintendo has also released an updated list of games that have surpassed a million copies sold:

  • Super Mario Odyssey – 9.07 million
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 7.33 million
  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 6.70 million
  • Splatoon 2 – 4.91 million
  • 1-2 Switch – 1.88 million
  • ARMS – 1.61 million
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.06 million
