Thanks to a translation by Twitter user Serkan Toto, we have a translation for a recently-published interview with Nintendo’s president, Tatsumi Kimishima. Web-based publication Diamond Online did a Q&A session with Kimishima, and his answers give some insight as to what Nintendo’s future may hold.

Previously, Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned that his personal goal for the Switch was for every person to own a system as opposed to the Wii’s goal of one per household. When asked about this statement, Kimishima said that it’s an impressive-sounding goal, but that the individual price of the Switch makes that a tall order. He does believe it’s possible to achieve, however.

The next question was about China and the Switch’s presence there. Or rather, the lack thereof. Unfortunately, according to Kimishima, due to China having differing local regulations, it’s difficult-to-impossible to give the Switch a proper release in the region. He compared it to other countries, saying that, unlike in China, the Switch can be enjoyed in Japan, the US, and Europe in the same way.

Smartphone games are planned to be a continued effort Nintendo works towards, with Kimishima saying that they’ll continue to coexist alongside the larger console outings for these series. He estimated that about 2-3 apps would be released a year and that Nintendo used Miitomo, their soon-to-shut-down first app, as a learning experience. Their current mobile partnership with DeNA, is one Kimishima mentions he “isn’t dissatisfied” with. He does mention though, that, while their current apps will be kept up, that working with other companies on mobile titles isn’t off the table.

Finally, he shared that the Super Nintendo World theme park in Universal Japan is planned to be completed before the Summer Olympics take place in Tokyo in 2020.

And that’s all we have from this interview with Kimishima. For all future news following Nintendo and its execs, NinMobileNews has you covered!
