Vivox will be releasing an SDK (Software Development Kit) for developers who wish to implement text and voice chat on Nintendo Switch games. As you may already know, the Nintendo Switch lacks voice and text chat support as it is not a native feature for the system.
Due to this inconvenience, Nintendo released their own Nintendo Switch Online application to give players the opportunity to connect with friends by communicating through a voice-chat room on mobile devices. With this SDK, Vivox will be helping developers integrate text and voice chat support on their games with Nintendo Switch.
Development teams have already brought Vivox into their Nintendo Switch ports including Epic Games’ Fortnite. Hi-Rez Studio will also be leveraging the Vivox SDK for SMITE and Paladins in future game updates. Here’s what Dave Verratti, president of Vivox had to say about today’s announcement:
“We’ve already seen a great deal of success with Nintendo and the use of our voice services in Fortnite,” said Dave Verratti, president of Vivox. “We are extremely proud to be a part of the Nintendo ecosystem. We’re happy to help Nintendo continue to push the envelope in their products by bringing gamers together through enhanced communications. Multiplayer games can and should excel on Nintendo Switch, and we’re excited to see the results of the Vivox SDK on Nintendo Switch.”
We look forward to more games using this SDK in the near future and this is great news overall. Let us know your thoughts in the comments, below! For all things Nintendo, stay tuned to NinMobileNews!
