From gender to age, the demographics of Nintendo Switch owners have changed significantly since the console’s launch in Q2 2017.
According to EEDAR, there were 50% women and 50% men Nintendo Switch owners in Q4 2018. During the console’s launch in Q2 2017, 70% of early adopters were made of men while the remaining 30% were made up of women. The EEDAR states that, “the Switch skews slightly more towards females than either of the other two consoles, which have averaged a 55% male split.”
Similarly, age demographics changed between early adopters and life to date owners. The majority of early adopters were made up of players from ages 25-29. In Q4 2018, the age demographics changed towards even younger gamers as the highest ownership age ranged became 18-24. Ages increased overall as well, as older gamers began to adopt the system later on in its life.
The EEDAR is an entity dedicated to collecting video game data. They were acquired by the NPD Group in October 2016. If you’d like to read and view the data yourself, you can do so directly from their website.
