The Nintendo Switch console continues to be in high demand, but Nintendo assures fans it’s working hard to stock shelves. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, the company stated it plans to increase production in time for the 2017 holiday season. (Warning: Paywall)
Nintendo told the Journal:
“We’re doing everything we can to make sure everyone who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch system can do so. We will ramp up production for the holiday period, which has been factored into our forecast.”
Nintendo has stated it plans to ship 10 million units by the end of fiscal 2017, but sources suggest the number could be closer to 18 million. An unnamed executive in the supply chain told the journal that his company was “ready to pickup the pace of production if asked.”
GameStop and other retailers have consistently held high-profile restocks across the US as units come in. In Japan, things are even more intense as stores create lotteries to give buyers a chance at the rare consoles. The holidays are approaching fast, so we’ll continue to monitor the availability of Switch consoles.
