In the last few years, Nintendo has continuously worked on promoting their IP’s to a broader audience with their mobile games. With its first smartphone title, Miitomo, it has opened the door to many possibilities for future games on the mobile platform. According to Sensor Tower, Nintendo’s Fire Emblem Heroes has grossed at an estimated 295 million dollars since its worldwide release.
Based on the information provided, Fire Emblem Heroes has outperformed Super Mario Run by bringing five times as much revenue within its first 12 months. Super Mario Run within its first 12 months grossed about $56 million dollars worldwide and currently sits at about $60 million total. Both games vary in content and offer two different monetization approaches. Super Mario Run is known for its one-time pay to unlock approach and Fire Emblem Heroes continuously brings new content and in-app purchases to keep the game fresh.
Fire Emblem Heroes is also performing better in sales than Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. During its first two months, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp made $20 million across both the App Store and Google Play. Fire Emblem Heroes earned $86 million dollars within its two months. These two games also have different monetization approaches which can drive players to spend more as needed to unlock new items and resources.
Unlike Fire Emblem Heroes or Super Mario Run, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is free-to-play. From what we’ve noticed from players on our sister community, ACPocketNews, the incentives to purchase additional resources in the game is really not needed depending on how quickly you’d like to level up and progress through the game, however, as most Animal Crossing players know, the game requires patience and time.
Nearly 30% of Fire Emblem Heroes revenue is coming from the United States and about 60 percent has been made in Japan. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, however, has made about 82% of its overall revenue from Japan.
We’re thrilled for more games to come soon on mobile especially with Mario Kart Tour which is expected to arrive sometime in the next fiscal year, which ends in March 2019. For all things, Nintendo, stay tuned to NinMobileNews.
