Soon, you’ll be able to use your Nintendo Switch to play more Xbox Live-enabled games and connect with players from other platforms.
That’s because Microsoft will be releasing a new cross-platform Xbox Development Kit (XDK) for developers. Set to be unveiled during this year’s GDC, the new XDK enables developers to create games that will connect Switch, iOS, and Android players to Xbox and PC players. This kind of connection is available in a handful of games such as Minecraft, but this functionality is expected to expand with the new XDK.
For now, it’s not clear whether the XDK will also enable cross-play across different platforms. The GDC schedule listing, as found by Avers of G4G Media and reported by Windows Central, focuses on the social aspect of the cross-platform connection. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see your Xbox achievements and chat with your Xbox Live friends from the comforts of your Switch.
