Whether you own a Nintendo Switch system or you’re considering purchasing one in the future, I’d highly suggest buying some accessories along with it. The Nintendo Switch released only a month ago and there have already been countless reports of people experiencing cosmetic wear on their beloved systems. Whether by having their screens scratch by inserting their Nintendo Switch in the dock or by accidentally dropping them in their day to day activities.
If you’re like me, you’re extraordinarily careful for the first few weeks of owning any new device. The high demand and limited stock of the switch have made it crucial to protect your system with the best accessories. It’s a common misconception to think that the best accessories are the most expensive ones. German accessory manufacturer, Snakebyte, has proved this with their line of Nintendo Switch products.
The team at Snakebyte has given us the opportunity to review some of their Nintendo Switch accessories including their Starter:Kit, Head:Phone, and Sound:Buds for Nintendo Switch. Throughout this review, we’ll discuss their designs and highlight key features of each individual product.
Design
The product packaging is extraordinarily impressive. Each product is beautifully displayed on their respective packaging and not digitally altered, as we’ve experienced with other products we’ve acquired in the past. The color palette and design are clean and straightforward, displaying the functionality of each product with clarity, with multilingual descriptions of its features. The boxes are also very sturdy as well.
Starter:Kit
The Snakebyte – Nintendo Switch Starter:Kit offers nearly everything you’d possibly need when playing on-the-go.
Includes:
- Hard-Shell Carrying Case
- Nintendo Switch – Cartridge Case
- Controller Thumb-Stick Caps
- Stereo In-Ear Headphones
- Screen Protector
- Cleaning Cloth
- Soft Card
There are many things we love about this starter kit and the hard-shell carrying case is definitely one of them. I’ve never personally owned a hard-shell carrying case prior to this review, and I’ve truly missed out on the benefits of owning one, especially this one. This case, in particular, feels very durable inside-out, providing enough room to carry any third-party accessories including the ones bundled such as the in-ear headphones, a cartridge case or a portable battery inside the mesh pocket within the case. To add an extra layer of protection and security, the case also features two elastic straps that hold the Nintendo Switch and Joy-cons in place.
A cartridge case is truly great to have, it’s even better when bundled in a set. I personally never considered purchasing a cartridge case because my Nintendo Switch games are mostly digital (excluding Breath of the Wild). The cartridge case is clear plastic with two compartments. It’s extremely useful being able to carry four game cartridges on the go!
The control caps are a great addition to the starter kit. The kit comes with two caps, one red and one gray. For those who’ve never used thumbstick caps, it protects the grips of your analog sticks from tearing after countless hours of use.
The stereo in-ear headphones are good if you intend to use them solely for gaming. The rubber earbuds provide a good amount of comfort and fit well in my ears. This may not be the case for everyone because they are one-size-fits-most. It would’ve been great to see additional sized earbuds to accommodate the needs of others.
One of the most important accessories in this Starter Kit is the screen protector, cleaning cloth, and soft card. These items are great to have and very easy to apply.
The Nintendo Switch Starter Kit retails for $19.99 and is available for purchase on Amazon.
Head:Phone
Whether I’m working or casually listening to music, I use my Bose QuietComfort 35’s for all my audio needs, due to my high sound standards. These headphones far exceed expectations, especially when considering the price. The gray and red color scheme match well with my gray Nintendo Switch. They also have a real strong classic NES vibe. The headphones offer a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack on the right earpiece for additional listeners. Very convenient for road trips!
The ear cushions on the headphones are comfortable and snuggle perfectly on my ears. This comfort continued even after long hours of gameplay. These sound fantastic when listening to music as well.
Portability is a key feature that sets the Nintendo Switch apart from its competitors. These headphones do a great job making it easy to carry them around with their lightweight design and foldability.
The Nintendo Switch headphones retail for $19.99 and are available for purchase on Amazon.
Sound:Buds
The Sound:Buds are in-ear stereo headphones that are very similar to the ones included in the Starter:Kit. This version provides additional ear pieces to accommodate different sizes and a carrying case for easy storage.
The Sound:Buds are also available for purchase on Amazon for $14.99.
