Metroid series producer, Yoshio Sakamoto was interviewed by Game Informer for their September 2017 issue and expressed his desire to create a new 2D Metroid in the future.

As Mr. Sakamoto explained to Game Informer, he loved the idea of creating a 2D Metroid like Samus Returns, and that is definitely something he is interested in doing for another opportunity, however that is solely dependent whether fans are willing to buy a 2D Metroid.

“Through the development of Metroid: Samus Returns, I was able to really grasp the possibility and fun of a 2D Metroid. Like when I finished the first game, if there is another opportunity to make another Metroid, that is something that I would love to do. Of course, that really depends on how much people really want to buy a 2D Metroid.”

We definitely want more Metroid titles for the future, especially with the upcoming launch of Metroid: Samus Returns. Support the series and let it be known that you want more games like these for the future!

Metroid: Samus Returns will be available for Nintendo 3DS on September 15th.
