The Switch has had a great year since launch and has made an impact on gamers and their way of playing. With the Switch being successful in terms of sales and with its popular games, the voice chat service on the Nintendo Switch Online App is not.

Rolling Stone interviewed Jason Citron, CEO of the popular gamer-centric social program, Discord and was asked on what his thoughts were about the Switch and Nintendo’s smartphone chat service. Here’s the statement he made:

And the service is growing a surprisingly large audience among console gamers, mostly, Citron believes, because Discord’s sound quality is so high and latency is so low. A large number of Nintendo Switch owners are among those users, perhaps because Nintendo’s own chat service for the console isn’t very integrated, requiring users to download a smartphone app.

“I have thought about the Switch,” he says. “I have spent many hundreds of hours of my life in that little screen.

“If Nintendo wants us to power their voice chat, we’d be happy to talk.”

Hopefully, we’ll be able to see a dedicated chat service such as Discord natively running on Switch in the future, but we’re just being hopeful.
