A closer look at the new amiibo figures for Super Mario Odyssey reveals what could be previously unannounced kingdoms waiting in the game. We analyzed the beautiful amiibo boxes from the marketing images, and found a few surprises tucked into the script behind the figures.
The backing card for each new amiibo features sections from a map of worlds Mario can visit in Odyssey. It’s easy to make out the Metro Kingdom and New Donk City on the Mario amiibo’s box, for example. Looking closer, a Lake Kingdom also appears, as well as what seems to be a Snow Kingdom and the classic Mushroom Kingdom itself.
Lake Kingdom was recently mentioned by Nintendo, so we could be close to an official reveal soon. The three kingdoms above, if confirmed, would join the seven kingdoms already confirmed: Metro, Wooded, Desert, Cap, Cascade, Seaside, and Luncheon Kingdoms.
It’s unclear whether Mario can travel to every kingdom that appears on the map. Still, given how few details we’ve seen so far on the game’s many worlds, it’s likely Nintendo is very much aware of the backing art for these amiibo. We could be in for a few more surprises before Super Mario Odyssey hits shelves this holiday season.
