A license check error affecting game sharing might be caused by the latest Nintendo Switch firmware version 7.0.0.

Users on r/NintendoSwitch are reporting crashes of their game shared titles when the system performs a license check.

Game sharing was first introduced to Nintendo Switch users in September with the Nintendo Switch Online update. A player can sign into their Nintendo account on both a primary and secondary Switch. The catch is that on a secondary system, only the account owner can play their games and they must be connected to the internet to do so. The system performs a license check on the secondary Switch every 3 hours in order to validate this process.

The error redundantly states, “the software was closed because an error occurred.” There is no information as of yet if Nintendo is working on a fix.
